About Drosyn 5% Eye Drop

PHENYLEPHRINE belongs to a category of medications called ‘nasal decongestants’ primarily used to treat stuffy nose and sinus congestion caused by the common cold, hay fever, and other allergies. Besides this, PHENYLEPHRINE Injection is indicated in adults and children to treat hypotensive states, for example, circulatory failure during spinal anaesthesia, or drug-induced hypotension. Nasal congestion (stuffy nose) is a condition in which the obstruction to the airflow in and out of the nose. It can be caused by infections such as common cold, flu or sinusitis, and allergies.

Uses of Drosyn 5% Eye Drop

Nasal Congestion, Hypotensive states (low blood pressure) during spinal anaesthesia or drug-induced hypotension.

Medicinal Benefits of Drosyn 5% Eye Drop

PHENYLEPHRINE is primarily used to treat the common cold and allergy symptoms such as the blocked nose, sneezing, congestion. PHENYLEPHRINE contains ‘Phenylephrine’ is a class of medicines called decongestants. It works by shrinking the small blood vessels in the nasal passage, reducing stuffy nose, providing relief from inflammation (redness and swelling), and making it easier to breathe. On the other hand, PHENYLEPHRINE Injection is widely used by an anesthesiologist and intensive care specialist to treat hypotension (low blood pressure) due to vasodilation caused by general, epidural, and spinal anaesthesia (caesarian section).

Directions for Use

Oral: Take a PHENYLEPHRINE tablet with or without food as prescribed by your doctor and swallow whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Your doctor will recommend how often you take PHENYLEPHRINE based on your medical condition. Injection: PHENYLEPHRINE injection will be administered by a healthcare professional.

Side Effects of Drosyn 5% Eye Drop

Like other medications, PHENYLEPHRINE also has certain side effects, but it is not mandatory for anyone to experience them. Some people may experience nausea, vomiting, headache, tiredness, stomach upset, restlessness, and drowsiness. Most of these side effects of PHENYLEPHRINE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Drug Warnings

Do not take PHENYLEPHRINE if you are allergic to PHENYLEPHRINE or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before starting PHENYLEPHRINE.  PHENYLEPHRINE is not recommended for children below 12 years of age If you have high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye), overactive thyroid gland, are taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (used for depression), please do not take PHENYLEPHRINE as it is known to interact. Also, inform your doctor about all other medications you have been taking before starting PHENYLEPHRINE. Do not stop taking PHENYLEPHRINE even if you feel better without asking your doctor as your symptoms may come back and may even worsen your condition. PHENYLEPHRINE may cause drowsiness and sleepiness, so it is advised not to drive a car or operate machinery. Consumption of alcohol should be avoided as it may lead to excessive drowsiness and sleepiness.

Drug Interactions


Drug-Drug Interaction:

PHENYLEPHRINE may interact with medicines used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (amphetamine, dextroamphetamine), anti-sickness drugs (domperidone, metoclopramide), blood thinners (warfarin, aspirin), medicines used to treat heart disease (digoxin), antibiotics (chloramphenicol), high cholesterol-lowering medicines (cholestyramine), anti-depressants (duloxetine, isocarboxazid, rasagiline, linezolid, tranylcypromine), and medicines used to treat migraine (ergotamine,  methysergide).

Drug-Disease Interaction:

If you have high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye), kidney or liver problems, are receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAO) therapy, inform your doctor before taking PHENYLEPHRINE.

Safety Advice

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol with PHENYLEPHRINE as it may increase drowsiness. Please consult a doctor before consuming alcohol with PHENYLEPHRINE.

PREGNANCY

PHENYLEPHRINE is a pregnancy Category C medicine. It is not known whether PHENYLEPHRINE will affect pregnant women or fetus or not. Hence, the intake of PHENYLEPHRINE should be avoided if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant as it may harm the baby.

BREAST FEEDING

It is unknown if PHENYLEPHRINE passes into breastmilk. Consult your doctor before taking PHENYLEPHRINE if you are breastfeeding.

DRIVING

PHENYLEPHRINE may cause drowsiness or tiredness in some people. Therefore, drive only if you are alert after taking PHENYLEPHRINE.

LIVER

Take PHENYLEPHRINE with caution, especially if you have a history of Liver diseases/conditions. The dose may be adjusted by your doctor as required.

KIDNEY

Take PHENYLEPHRINE with caution, especially if you have a history of kidney diseases/conditions. The dose may be adjusted by your doctor as required.
